A Cayman Islands Monetary Authority approved firm, Rankin Berkower (Cayman) Ltd. provides audit services under the Companies Management Law, Information and Communications Technology Authority Law, Insurance Law, Money Services Law and Mutual Funds Law, in addition to other non-regulated entities, bringing together local knowledge and a global presence. Rankin Berkower also provides liquidator services.
Philip Rankin is a Caymanian and has over 25 years of experience in the financial industry providing accounting, auditing, corporate and consulting services. Philip started his professional career with Deloitte & Touche and remained with that firm for over twelve years. During his tenure with Deloitte, he was a manager in their audit and assurance division assisting an array of clients including major banks, trusts, captive insurance, mutual and hedge funds and private investment companies.
Philip holds a BSC degree in Accounting from Barry University, as well as a Certified Public Accountant Certificate from the AICPA. As a corporate service provider, Philip has experience in the formation of Cayman Companies (ordinary and exempt); provision of registered offices; corporate secretary; directorships and all other corporate duties. He has also provided consultancy and financial advisory services and acted as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to various corporations.
In addition, Philip is a founder and Managing Partner of Rankin & Co. (Certified Public Accountants and Consultants); Co-Founder and Managing Partner/Director of Rankin Berkower (Cayman) Ltd.; an approved audit firm regulated by the Cayman Island Monetary Authority that currently provides audit services to numerous investment funds and other investment companies.
In past years, Philip was an avid Associate Professor of Accounting, lecturing at the International College of the Cayman Islands for over six years where he had the distinct pleasure of witnessing several of his students become Certified Public Accountants and go on to enjoy lucrative careers in the Financial Industry. He currently serves as a Director and Chairman of the Financial Affairs Committee of our national airline, Cayman Airways.
Maurice Berkower has over 40 years of experience providing accounting, auditing, tax and consulting services. Maurice began his professional career with a New Jersey based regional mid-sized accounting firm and rose to partnership level, prior to the formation of Berkower LLC. His clients include onshore and offshore hedge, private equity and digital asset funds, investment advisors and broker-dealers in securities.
Maurice is the Managing Principal of Berkower LLC, and Co-Founder and Director of Rankin Berkower (Cayman) Ltd. and leads those respective firms’ national and international alternative investments practice groups. Maurice has an MBA in Taxation from Bernard Baruch College and a BS in Accounting from Brooklyn College, and is a Certified Public Accountant in the States of New York, New Jersey, Florida, California and Washington, D.C. and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants, New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants, Florida Institute of CPAs, California Society of CPAs, and Cayman Islands Institute of Professional Accountants.
Maurice serves on the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants Investment Companies, Investment Management, Private Equity, and Stock Brokerage Committees. Maurice also served in leadership capacities for various non-profit and charitable organizations, is a Board Member and Treasurer of the Florida Alternative Investment Association and Board Member of the Student Finance League Inc.
Maurice has contributed accounting and consulting articles to The CPA Journal and various community and local newspapers and presented various educational and informational seminars and programs to other accountants, bankers, attorneys, hedge fund managers and hedge fund industry professionals.
